A NOTE FROM JILL Dear Readers, As you may already know, this year I’m looking forward to two new releases coming out. Check out the home page LINK to read all about them. They’ll hit the stores in June. Between now and then I’ll be putting together some proposals and projects to work on this year, but books and writing are only part of my life. On St. Patrick’s Day, my valiant hula sisters and I will be performing for Hospitals and Adult Day Care centers as a way to bring joy to the community. I think sometimes we get more enjoyment out of our dancing than we give, but the smiles and the sound of patients singing along to the Hawaiian songs are very heartwarming and uplifting for us. There are various photos of me with my hula sisters on the Scrapbook Page, too. This coming April, I’ll be traveling to North and South Carolina with my mom, Maggi, to visit my Aunt Toni and my cousins, Pamela and Karen. Both of my cousins are noted historians and traveling with the them around Edisto Island and Charleston are not to be missed experiences. I’ll also be trekking around the island to watch my hubby, Steve, compete in outrigger canoe races. Outrigger canoe racing is probably Hawaii’s major competitive sport. Check out my Scrapbook for a photo of Steve in his outrigger canoe. Sometimes he participates with a team, paddling with a crew of six. Other times he’s paddling alone in his one-man. One grueling race he entered years ago was from the island of Molokai to the island of Oahu (that’s the island where Honolulu and Waikiki are located). That paddle lasted seven hours in the open ocean. I don’t even like to think about it, but it was a great challenge and we still think of it as a fabulous accomplishment. We’re looking forward to my niece, Mellisa and her husband, Brandon, coming to stay with us for a visit in May. They’ll be here to relax as they prepare for the birth of their first child in August. You can bet we’re all pretty excited. Not only that, but our friends the Hannahs, Ben and Kristin, (yes, the author of Firefly Lane and other great novels) will be on island. Hopefully their son, Tucker, will be able to fit all of us old folks in during his spring break from college in Southern California. In July, we’ll be back on the mainland to visit family and friends and I’ll be attending the Romance Writers of America National Conference. This year it’s in San Francisco and even Steve is looking forward to going up to the City by the Bay for the event. Each year RWA holds an Autographing for Literacy. Publishers donate books, authors autograph them for you, and all the monies earned go to Literacy. If you are in the Bay area, don’t miss this worthwhile event and meet your favorite authors. See the Appearances web page for details. Wow. I didn’t know I had that much going on. I guess I probably should bid you aloha nui and get to work! Check out my Blog when you have time and please do drop me a note via the Guestbook page when you can. Until next time, keep reading! Jill Marie |
