Friends since high school and college, the "Birthday Club" meets to
celebrate life on their birthdays each year. From left, Judy
DeCondres, Sue Westberg, Jill Marie, and Gail Schack. |

An avid quilter, Jill Marie enjoyed helping out at the Beyond the
Reef Quilt Shop booth at a quilt show in Ontario, California.
Natalie Barnes, pattern designer and owner of Beyond the Reef, is a
close friend of Jill Marie's. |

Although Jill Marie prefers the warm climate of
California and Hawaii, she bravely bundled up to go skiing in
Idaho over the 2001 Christmas holidays. |

Photographer Happy Parks took this lovely photo of heliconia and
antherium on the Hawaiian shore not far from Jill Marie's retreat
there. "Mahalo" in Hawaiian means "thanks." Jill says: "From me to
you, thank you for all of your support, my friends." |

Says Jill Marie, "Hey, we forgot to have kids, so we borrowed some from
friends in Hawaii during the summer of 2000.) |

Jill Marie recently took her mother to California's Anza Borrego Desert for a weekend getaway.
Her mom
manned the camera for this shot. (What, Jill Marie? No beach?) |

Occasionally, while in Hawaii, Steve and Jill Marie leave the sand and
surf, and she does a signing. Here they are at the Lihue, Kauai Borders
in the summer of 1998. Love those leis! |

February 2001
Jill Marie, Steve & pals join together to host a wedding rehearsal dinner for mutual friends. All are wearing traditional Hawaiian "palaka" (plaid), introduced in the 1800s by missionaries who clothed the natives in the fabric. Later, ranch and plantation workers adopted the pattern, and it continues its popularity among modern-day paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys). |

Jill Marie, ukulele in hands, and husband Steve, with guitar,
in Mrs. Schack's first grade class in Long Beach, California's
Fremont School, where
they sang Hawaiian songs. The blackboard says, "Look good.
Think you can. Work
hard. Get smart." Good advice for anyone! |
